Seoul, South Korea — CPI-M MP Dr. John Brittas, leading an Indian delegation, praised the warm reception they received in South Korea despite the ongoing election season. During their visit, the delegation held important meetings with senior officials, including the Foreign Minister, Vice Foreign Minister, and the Standing Committee Chairman of Defence.

Brittas described the discussions as “very fruitful,” noting the opportunity to convey India’s security concerns clearly. He acknowledged South Korea’s own apprehensions about nuclear weapons, explaining, “We made it clear that India is a responsible country. We have always declared our intent of not using nuclear weapons as a first resort.”

He emphasized India’s commitment to peace, stating, “We have gone miles to ensure there is peace in our nation. But since Pakistan is not cooperating and terrorism has been brought in, it is impossible to tread ahead.”

With South Korea being a member of the United Nations Security Council, Brittas stressed the importance of their support. He said South Korean officials promised to “appreciate the concerns of India,” signaling a positive outlook for future collaboration on security issues.
