Chennai: CPI leader D Raja has strongly criticized the BJP-led Central government, accusing it of politicizing the National Education Policy (NEP) and financially punishing Tamil Nadu for opposing it. The remarks come amid an ongoing dispute between the state government and the Centre over the implementation of NEP.
“The BJP is politicizing the issue and punishing a state that has its own opposition to the NEP by not giving their funds. It is atrocious on the part of the Union government. Education is on the concurrent list, and states have the power to decide on education. The Centre cannot act unilaterally,” Raja stated.
He further accused the Centre of using NEP as a tool for "commercialisation, centralisation, and communalisation of education." Raja also alleged that the imposition of Hindi was part of the BJP’s broader agenda.
