Chennai/Kanchipuram: The ongoing investigation into the Kanchipuram-based manufacturer of Coldrif cough syrup, connected to the deaths of children in Madhya Pradesh, has revealed significant lapses by the Tamil Nadu Food and Drug Administration (TNFDA), officials said.

Sources from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) indicated that basic regulatory norms, which are critical for ensuring drug safety, were not adequately enforced. The probe comes after multiple cases of child fatalities were reported following the consumption of the cough syrup, prompting both state and central authorities to examine the manufacturing and quality control processes at the facility.
