Delhi: Congress leader Devender Yadav has defended Rahul Gandhi’s recent visit to jhuggi settlements in the national capital, responding to criticism from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Yadav said that the visit was part of a sustained effort by Congress to highlight the plight of affected families whose homes have been demolished in recent months.

“In the last five months, hundreds of jhuggis have been demolished,” Yadav stated, adding that Rahul Gandhi and other senior party leaders have consistently raised the issue in Parliament. He emphasised that the Congress party views the large-scale displacement of urban poor as a matter of serious concern and one requiring urgent governmental intervention.
