Malappuram, Kerala | As the Nilambur by-election gains political heat, Congress leader Shama Mohamed launched a scathing attack on former MLA PV Anwar, accusing him of disrespecting democratic institutions and wasting public resources by re-contesting the seat he resigned from.

“In the history of India, it’s the first time an MLA who resigned is contesting the same seat in a by-election. What’s the point of wasting the state’s money, people’s work, and the Election Commission’s involvement?” Shama Mohamed said, calling the move a mockery of the electoral process.

She added that Anwar, previously elected on a Left Democratic Front (LDF) ticket, had failed to deliver any development during his tenure. Referring to statements made by LDF candidate M Swaraj, she pointed out the contradiction, saying, “If Swaraj claims PV Anwar did nothing in the past nine years, and Anwar was with the LDF, then Swaraj is admitting the LDF has done no work in Nilambur.”

Shama Mohamed asserted that the United Democratic Front (UDF) has strong grassroots support and would win the by-election with a clear majority.
