New Delhi — Senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament Jairam Ramesh launched a scathing attack on the Modi government, raising serious questions about the transparency surrounding a purported trade and ceasefire deal with the United States. His remarks come after U.S. President Donald Trump claimed multiple times since May 10 that he played a decisive role in brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, and used trade negotiations as leverage.

“President Trump has said 16 times that he was responsible for the ceasefire. Now he’s calling it a very big deal,” said Ramesh at a press briefing in Delhi. “Is it so big that Operation Sindoor had to be stopped?”

The Congress MP further questioned what concessions India has made under the deal. “Are we opening up our agriculture? Our small and medium industries? Are we liberalising imports from America?” he asked, suggesting the agreement might involve compromises not disclosed to the public.

Ramesh criticised the government's failure to inform Parliament or the public about the details of the agreement. “Why do we have to hear about a ceasefire and trade deal from Washington? Why isn't the Prime Minister or the External Affairs Minister taking the nation into confidence?”
