Delhi: The assault on Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a public interaction has sparked political criticism, with the Congress questioning security arrangements in the capital. Party leader Shama Mohamed said the incident raised serious concerns about the safety of women in Delhi, calling on the Union Home Ministry to respond in Parliament.

The attack took place during a “Jan Sunwai” programme at the Chief Minister’s Civil Lines residence, where a man allegedly handed over a complaint and then attempted to assault her. While the CM sustained only a light injury and was later declared stable by doctors, the incident has intensified debate on law and order in the national capital.

Shama Mohamed highlighted that security for the Chief Minister is handled by the Delhi Police, which functions under the Union Home Ministry. She argued that if the Chief Minister could be attacked in such a setting, the safety of ordinary women in the city comes into question.

The Congress leader demanded that Home Minister Amit Shah clarify in Parliament how the breach occurred and outline measures to ensure stronger protections in future.
