Bengaluru: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday condemned the incident in the Supreme Court where the Chief Justice of India (CJI) was reportedly disrespected, describing such actions as punishable.
Addressing a press conference, Kharge said, “What happened in the Supreme Court…the way the CJI was disrespected is condemnable. Such acts are punishable.” He highlighted concerns over certain ideological positions expressed by legal professionals that, in his view, undermine human rights.
“If a lawyer holds an ideology that humans shouldn’t be considered human… even after 78 years of Independence, if this is the ideology, then those who continue to violate people’s fundamental rights in the name of Manusmriti and Sanatan Dharma must be educated,” Kharge added, stressing the importance of awareness and respect for constitutional rights.
