Lucknow | Amidst the ongoing war of words between the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the preparations for the Maha Kumbh 2025, Congress MP Tanuj Punia has alleged widespread corruption in the planning process. Echoing SP leader Akhilesh Yadav's criticism, Punia said the incomplete preparations highlight the inefficiency and corruption within the government.
Speaking to reporters, Punia said, “What Akhilesh Yadav has said is absolutely right. The preparations for the Maha Kumbh are incomplete, which clearly shows the corruption in the government. Tenders are being given only to Gujaratis, who then subcontract them to others. Corruption is everywhere.”
The Maha Kumbh, set to take place in Prayagraj in 2025, is a massive religious gathering that requires extensive infrastructure and logistical arrangements. Opposition leaders have criticized the BJP-led government for alleged mismanagement and favoritism in awarding contracts.
Punia’s remarks have added fuel to the fire in the political debate, with Congress joining the SP in questioning the transparency of the government’s processes. Both parties have accused the ruling BJP of prioritizing cronyism over the welfare of the state.
Government officials have yet to respond to the allegations, but BJP leaders have dismissed similar accusations in the past, asserting that the preparations are proceeding on schedule and with full accountability.
