Delhi: Congress MP Pramod Tiwari on Monday expressed strong support for his party’s vice-presidential candidate B Sudershan Reddy, stressing that the election should be determined by ability rather than political affiliations.
Speaking to reporters, Tiwari described Reddy as well qualified for the constitutional position, which also carries the responsibility of serving as the ex-officio Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. He argued that Reddy’s credentials make him a suitable choice to preside over the Upper House of Parliament.
“The vice-presidential election is not based on parties but on abilities, and I think our candidate B Sudershan Reddy is well qualified for the post as he will be the de facto Chairman of the Rajya Sabha,” Tiwari said.
The Congress leader also criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party’s earlier decision to elevate Jagdeep Dhankhar to the post of Vice President, claiming the experiment had failed to deliver results. He asserted that the opposition should now be given an opportunity to lead the office.
“Now we should be given a chance, and I believe we will win by a huge majority as people across parties will vote for our candidate,” he added.
