New Delhi: Amid escalating geopolitical tensions in West Asia, Congress MP Imran Masood on Monday issued a strong statement urging the Indian government to take a clear stand in support of Iran, calling the country a long-time ally of India with deep-rooted trade and cultural ties.
Speaking to the media in Delhi, Masood said, “We should stand with Iran. Iran is an old friend of ours. We have trade relations and cultural ties with them. Iran has always supported us in every way. So, we should be seen standing with Iran in these difficult times.”
His remarks come at a time when Iran has come under international scrutiny and pressure amid allegations regarding its nuclear activities and rising hostilities with Western powers. Masood defended Iran’s position, stating that Iran has not initiated conflict but has been on the receiving end of attacks, despite maintaining transparency about its nuclear program.
“Iran said all its nuclear programs are under the monitoring of international agencies, and you can come and inspect them. Despite that, it is being attacked. So, this is completely a 'dadagiri'. Everyone should unite against this ‘dadagiri’ and respond,” he added, using the colloquial Hindi term to describe what he views as international bullying.
