Bhubaneswar, Odisha: Congress MLA Sofia Firdous has voiced her opposition to the changes made to the Subhadra Yojana, a scheme initially introduced as part of the BJP’s election manifesto. Speaking at a protest in Bhubaneswar, Firdous expressed her dissatisfaction with the revised structure of the scheme, which she argues falls short of its original promises.
"We have been constantly protesting against the Subhadra Yojana," said Firdous. "Under this yojana, the BJP’s election manifesto promised benefits for all women, including Rs 50,000 over two years. But now, the scheme has been broken into providing financial assistance in two instalments of Rs 5,000 every year for over five years."
Firdous criticized the changes, questioning how women would truly benefit from the revised financial assistance. She further emphasized that the benefits should be extended to women of all ages, not just those between the ages of 21 and 60, as currently stipulated.
The Congress party's protest highlights growing concerns over the effectiveness of the Subhadra Yojana and its impact on the women of Odisha, particularly in light of the economic challenges faced by many households across the state.
