New Delhi: Amid national outrage over the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, senior Congress leaders have called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to convene a special session of both Houses of Parliament to discuss the incident and demonstrate a united political front against terrorism.

Congress MP Jairam Ramesh confirmed that party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had written to the Prime Minister on Monday night. “We had a discussion with several opposition leaders after which the Congress President and Lok Sabha LoP wrote letters to PM Modi last night to convene a special session of both Houses of Parliament,” Ramesh stated.

Calling for political unity in the face of terror, he added, “This is the time to unite and to show the world that we are united.”

The appeal reflects mounting political pressure on the Centre to facilitate an open, national-level dialogue on internal security following the Pahalgam attack, in which multiple tourists were killed in a brutal assault suspected to have been carried out by militants. The Congress party, along with other opposition groups, has demanded transparency regarding the circumstances of the attack and the government’s preparedness.

“We hope that PM Modi will accept this request and that he will be present in the sessions of the Parliament,” Ramesh said, emphasizing the symbolic and strategic importance of the Prime Minister’s participation.
