Congress leader Supriya Shrinate raised concerns over India’s economic condition, criticizing the BJP government for dismissing important issues like falling GDP, unemployment, and rising prices of essential goods. Speaking at a press conference, Shrinate pointed out that the country’s GDP had dropped to its lowest in the last 21 months, a worrying trend for the nation's financial health.
“We have to discuss the state of the economy, the GDP rate, unemployment, rising prices of vegetables.... The GDP has fallen to the lowest in the last 21 months,” Shrinate said, emphasizing the detrimental effects of a sluggish economy.
She further criticized the government’s attempt to downplay the significance of the GDP decline, stating, “GDP rate can't be dismissed only because it doesn't suit the BJP. A low GDP means that there is less investment and employment.”
According to Shrinate, a falling GDP is a clear indicator of reduced economic activity, which in turn leads to fewer job opportunities and higher unemployment rates. She expressed concern that the government was not addressing these issues adequately.
The Congress leader also raised questions about the Reserve Bank of India (RBI)’s inability to grasp the true extent of the country’s economic troubles, stating, “RBI, which has all the data, doesn't know what is happening in the country. What is Nirmala Sitharaman doing?”
Shrinate’s remarks reflect growing opposition criticism of the government’s handling of India’s economic challenges, with the Congress party calling for more transparency and decisive action to address the issues of inflation, unemployment, and sluggish economic growth.
