Delhi: The Congress on Friday escalated its concerns over the Bihar Assembly election outcome, with senior leader Ajay Maken openly questioning the integrity of the polling process. Speaking after a meeting with party president Mallikarjun Kharge, Maken said the “entire election process had a question mark over it from the beginning,” and that the final mandate reflected anomalies that require urgent scrutiny.

Maken noted that the BJP’s “unprecedented strike rate” in the state was unlike anything witnessed in recent electoral history, including the Congress’ own landslide victory in 1984. “No one expected this. Something is amiss,” he said, adding that all INDIA bloc partners shared similar apprehensions about the results.

According to Maken, party workers across Bihar have been reporting alleged discrepancies since counting day. The Congress has begun gathering data to cross-verify polling records, including Form 17C and voters’ lists, to determine whether any irregularities took place. “Our people are collecting the data… we will come to you with facts,” he assured.

He emphasised that the demand was not for political point-scoring but for preserving electoral credibility. “If workers on the ground are flagging issues, they must be examined,” he said. The party is expected to present its findings after the data review is completed, even as calls grow within the alliance for a more formal inquiry into the conduct of the polls.
