New Delhi, August 4: The Congress party has intensified its criticism of the Election Commission (EC) over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, alleging that the process is being misused to marginalize voters from specific communities. Congress MP Kiran Kumar Chamala, addressing reporters, accused the EC of enabling election fraud that he claimed would ultimately benefit the ruling political party.

Chamala expressed concerns that the voter deletion exercise was being carried out in a non-transparent manner. “The Election Commission is enabling election fraud, especially during SIR in Bihar, by marginalizing voters, particularly from some communities. This will benefit the ruling political party,” he alleged.

He criticized the government and EC for not engaging in discussions with opposition parties despite repeated requests. “We, the opposition parties, want the EC to be transparent and for the SIR to be discussed in Parliament. But they are not interested,” he said. Chamala further warned that the practice could extend beyond Bihar, affecting states like West Bengal and Assam, posing a serious threat to the democratic process.

“This systematic marginalization of voters will derail democracy in the country if it continues unchecked,” he added.

The Congress leader announced that party leader Rahul Gandhi would be visiting Bangalore to conduct a ground-level exercise in a constituency where alleged discrepancies in the electoral roll have been reported. “We will definitely go across the country, conduct padyatras, and ensure that people gain maximum awareness in these circumstances,” Chamala said, underlining the party’s plan to escalate public outreach on the issue.
