Varanasi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday visited flood-affected areas of Varanasi to review ongoing relief and rehabilitation work. The Chief Minister distributed relief materials to residents at the JP Mehta Flood Relief Center and interacted with families impacted by the rising water levels.
Addressing the media after the inspection, Adityanath acknowledged the recurring challenges caused by flooding during heavy rainfall and the release of excess water into rivers. “Flooding is a problem, and to protect us, the Central and State Governments have made arrangements under the guidance and leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Due to excessive rainfall, when more water is released into the rivers, low-lying areas experience waterlogging. In Kashi as well, people living along the banks of Varanasi and in low-lying areas face such challenges,” he said.
The Chief Minister added that the district administration has been directed to accelerate relief measures. “I inspected the flood relief works, gave directions, reviewed progress, and advanced the relief efforts. The district administration is working with full dedication to expedite these efforts,” he noted.
Officials informed that relief camps have been set up in affected areas and essential supplies are being provided to displaced families. The administration is also monitoring river water levels and coordinating with disaster response teams to ensure timely assistance.
