Mumbai, Maharashtra: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his visit to Mumbai, accusing him of spreading misinformation about the Dharavi redevelopment project and undermining its importance.
“Rahul Gandhi brought a very big ‘tijori’ (vault) to Mumbai. We thought it was to offer something to Maharashtra, but he has come to loot the ‘tijori’ of Maharashtra,” Shinde remarked, while addressing the media.
Countering Gandhi’s claims, Shinde emphasized the scale and significance of the Dharavi project, which aims to provide homes to nearly 2 lakh residents of the slum, recognized as one of Asia’s largest. “Rahul Gandhi has given the wrong information regarding Dharavi. This is Asia’s biggest redevelopment project, and everyone should prioritize it. I appeal to the people of Dharavi to keep political agendas aside and focus on what is beneficial for you,” he added.
The Dharavi redevelopment project has been touted as a transformative initiative to improve the living conditions of its residents by providing them with better housing and infrastructure. However, it has also become a focal point of political contention ahead of the upcoming elections.
Shinde’s remarks reflect the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance’s push to highlight their development agenda while countering the opposition’s criticism. The coming weeks are likely to see intensified debates over key projects such as Dharavi as parties vie for public support in Maharashtra.
