Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir: In a move aimed at restoring a sense of normalcy and confidence among the people, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced a directive for the resumption of school and college picnics to key tourist destinations like Gulmarg and Pahalgam. This decision follows a series of high-level meetings intended to assess the ground situation and reinforce civil administration’s presence in the region.

“Yesterday a cabinet meeting was called in Pahalgam and today a meeting of administrative secretaries and senior department heads was held,” Abdullah stated during his address in Gulmarg. “I have directed the Education Minister to ensure that picnics are resumed in schools and colleges and visits to Gulmarg and Pahalgam are made to move towards normalcy.”

The Chief Minister’s announcement is seen as both a symbolic and practical step to re-establish public confidence following recent disturbances. Encouraging youth activities and travel to iconic Kashmiri destinations is part of a broader effort to demonstrate that peace is returning and that life in the Valley is gradually stabilizing.
