Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has outlined the state government’s comprehensive approach to cleaning the Indrani River, addressing the long-standing issue of pollution caused by untreated wastewater from villages, cities, and industries.

Speaking at a press briefing, Fadnavis acknowledged the complexity of the task, stating, “Cleaning work of Indrani River is going on. The Indrani River cannot be cleaned in one day. The water from the villages, cities, and industries goes to the Indrani River. We have started the clarification of this water before releasing it in the Indrani River.”

The Chief Minister emphasized that the government is taking a multi-pronged approach to tackle the issue. “We are arranging the funds for Nagar Palikas (municipal councils) and Mahanagar Palika (municipal corporations) for this. We have also instructed industries to make sure that no influent goes in the river,” he added.

Fadnavis highlighted the importance of collaboration between urban local bodies, industries, and the state government in ensuring the success of the cleanup drive. He also assured that necessary funds and technological support will be provided to improve wastewater treatment facilities and enforce strict monitoring of industrial effluents.
