Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday conducted a surprise inspection of the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Dehradun, taking officials to task after witnessing poor sanitation and inadequate passenger facilities. The visit, which caught the administrative staff off-guard, was aimed at evaluating on-ground conditions at one of the city’s busiest public transport hubs.
Witnessing piled-up garbage and unhygienic surroundings, Dhami expressed strong displeasure and reprimanded officials for the lack of cleanliness. In a symbolic gesture underscoring the importance of hygiene, the Chief Minister picked up a broom himself, sending out a clear message about accountability and the state’s commitment to cleanliness standards.
Dhami directed officials to immediately streamline all operational and maintenance arrangements at the terminal. He stressed that bus passengers must be provided a safe and comfortable environment at all times. To this end, he instructed authorities to strengthen CCTV coverage and surveillance systems to ensure better monitoring and security.
The Chief Minister also called for urgent improvements in essential facilities, including drinking water points, functional toilets, and general sanitation measures. He further directed that the help desk and feedback mechanisms be upgraded so that passenger grievances can be resolved promptly.
