Dehradun | Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday reiterated his government's firm backing of the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, asserting that the legislation is designed for the benefit of the nation and the Muslim community, particularly the underprivileged. Speaking after attending a state-level workshop on the Waqf Act at the BJP office, Dhami announced a comprehensive investigation into nearly 5,700 Waqf-linked properties across the state.

“In Devbhoomi Uttarakhand, there are around 5,700 big properties. We will investigate this,” said Dhami. He emphasized that any land belonging to the state or country should be repurposed for nation-building efforts, particularly for the education and upliftment of the poor.

The Chief Minister also underlined his government's firm stance against land encroachment, stating, “Whenever we receive complaints of encroachment, we take action on that.” He added that the newly amended law would ensure such lands are not misused by vested interests. “The law has been brought for the benefit of the nation and the Muslim community, and to empower poor Muslims… Mafia won’t be able to take over any land now,” he asserted.
