Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Sunday attended the 21st 'Samooh Lagnotsav' (mass wedding ceremony) of the Thakor community in Ughroj, where he extended his blessings to 71 newlywed couples and commended the community’s commitment to social harmony and progress.
In his address, CM Patel highlighted the symbolic importance of such events in promoting unity, inclusiveness, and social upliftment. “This Samooh Lagnotsav is a reflection of the Thakor community’s progressive values—embracing cultural heritage while leading social reform,” he said.
He further acknowledged the region’s rapid industrial growth and praised the efforts being made by the community to integrate development with social awareness. Special mention was made of initiatives in education, de-addiction, and women empowerment, which he said are crucial for building a healthier, forward-looking society.
The event was also attended by prominent leaders including MP Chandubhai Shihora, and MLAs Alpesh Thakor and Hardik Patel, who offered blessings to the couples and echoed the Chief Minister’s sentiments on community-led development.
