Chief Justice of India B R Gavai on Thursday described the recent shoe attack incident in the Supreme Court as a “forgotten chapter,” stating that while he and Justice K Vinod Chandran were initially shocked, the matter no longer holds relevance.
The comment came during the hearing of a batch of petitions seeking review and modification of the Vanashakti judgement. The earlier ruling had prohibited the central government from granting retrospective or ex post facto environmental clearances to projects found violating environmental norms.
The incident occurred on October 6, when a 71-year-old lawyer, identified as Rakesh Kishore, allegedly took off his shoe and attempted to hurl it toward the Chief Justice during court proceedings. The act drew widespread condemnation from the legal fraternity, with many describing it as an unprecedented breach of courtroom decorum.
