Civil Defence Mock Drill Preparations Underway at Mumbai’s CSMT Amid Nationwide Security Push

In line with a nationwide directive issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), preparations are in full swing for a major Civil Defence mock drill at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai. The exercise, scheduled for Wednesday, is part of a broader security initiative aimed at evaluating emergency preparedness in the wake of growing cross-border tensions and the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

Officials at CSMT, one of the busiest railway hubs in the country, are coordinating with Civil Defence teams, Mumbai Police, fire and rescue services, and medical personnel to simulate a high-intensity emergency scenario. The mock drill will include evacuation procedures, rapid response deployment, crowd control, and coordination between multiple emergency services.

The MHA’s directive calls for such drills across all states, citing “new and complex threats” that have emerged in the current security climate, particularly in light of the Pahalgam terror attack, which targeted civilians and drew national outrage.

Authorities have urged the public not to panic during the exercise and to cooperate with officials as the simulation unfolds. The drills are designed not only to test the responsiveness of local agencies but also to identify gaps in coordination and infrastructure under pressure.
