New Delhi — As the Enforcement Directorate (ED) intensifies its probe into the National Herald case by filing a chargesheet against senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan has said that the law must take its course and no individual should consider themselves above it.
Speaking to reporters, Paswan emphasized that investigations should be allowed to continue unhindered. “It is a matter of investigation, and there will definitely be action. Nobody is above the law,” he said. Taking a swipe at the Congress party’s protests against the probe, he added, “I don't think it is appropriate to protest like this to affect the investigation. If you are not a culprit, you should not fear.”
The ED's action is part of a long-running investigation into allegations of financial irregularities and misappropriation of funds related to the National Herald newspaper and its holding company, Associated Journals Ltd. While the Congress has repeatedly called the probe “political vendetta,” the BJP and its allies maintain it is a matter of law and due process.
Paswan concluded by underlining the principle of equality before law: “If you are a culprit, no matter which family you belong to, action will be taken and punishment will be given.”
