Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Chirag Paswan expressed strong concern over frequent disruptions in the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament, stating that such conduct undermines democratic responsibilities and deprives first-time parliamentarians of meaningful participation. Reflecting on his early days in the House, Paswan recalled how even a single day of adjournment would leave him disappointed, as it meant losing the opportunity to raise matters central to his constituency.
“When I came here in 2014, even if there was a day's adjournment, I would feel pained that I couldn't raise the issues of my constituency,” he said, adding that Parliament provides multiple avenues—such as Question Hour, Zero Hour and debates—for members to voice concerns and contribute to national discourse.
Paswan criticised practices that prioritise disruption over dialogue, stating that such behaviour takes away valuable parliamentary space from those who come prepared to work. “In such a situation, you snatch the opportunity from those who have come for the first time. You snatch their opportunity, which is wrong,” he noted. He emphasised that those who wish to raise issues should do so on the floor of the House through legitimate mechanisms.
