Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Wednesday highlighted the state’s rapid strides in the energy sector, noting that its power generation capacity has seen a dramatic rise since the state’s formation in 2000.
“At the time of Chhattisgarh’s creation, the state had only about 1,400 megawatts of power generation capacity. Today, it has grown to nearly 30,000 megawatts,” the Chief Minister said, underscoring the scale of progress achieved in 25 years.
The Chief Minister added that this growth has not only made Chhattisgarh self-sufficient in electricity but also positioned it as a key contributor to the national power grid. The state has become one of the leading power producers in the country, helping meet the energy needs of both industries and households.
Officials said the increase in capacity is the result of sustained investment in thermal, hydro, and renewable power projects over the years. Infrastructure expansion, policy support, and private sector participation have also played a significant role in driving growth.
The state government is now focusing on balancing its energy mix with greater emphasis on renewable sources to ensure sustainability. Authorities are also working on strengthening transmission networks to improve reliability and reach underserved areas.
