Chennai Airport Extends Flight Operations Suspension Due to Cyclone

CHENNAI: The Chennai Airport has announced an extension of its flight operation suspension through a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) until 4:00 AM IST on December 1, 2024, in light of severe weather conditions caused by Cyclone Fengal.

A meeting held at 4:30 PM involving senior officials, stakeholders, and representatives from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) provided an update on the cyclone's progress. IMD predicts the landfall of the cyclone around 8:30 PM, with adverse weather expected to persist until 11:30 PM.

In coordination with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) Headquarters and feedback from stakeholders, the decision to extend the suspension aims to ensure passenger safety and operational readiness once conditions improve.

Passengers scheduled to travel during this period are urged to stay in touch with their respective airlines for real-time flight updates and rebooking options.

The airport authority has stated that senior officials are monitoring the situation closely to enable the earliest possible resumption of operations.
