New Delhi: Azad Samaj Party President and MP Chandrashekhar Azad has urged the central government to implement the Advocate Protection Act across the country, highlighting the essential role lawyers play in safeguarding justice for those facing wrongful prosecution.
Azad said that in many cases, innocent individuals are jailed under false charges, an act he described as an organised attempt to criminalise citizens. He noted that for such individuals, lawyers become a source of hope and are often regarded as the only path to justice.
However, he expressed concern that the same lawyers who work to protect the rights of others frequently face harassment and difficulties themselves, largely because of the absence of comprehensive national policies ensuring their protection. While some states have enacted the Advocate Protection Act, Azad emphasised the need for its full enforcement at the national level to provide uniform safeguards.
