Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday announced that the Centre has approved ₹1,700 crore for the construction of 184 rural roads across the state. He said the funding, cleared under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with the support of Union Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan, will provide a major boost to road connectivity in the Himalayan state.
In a statement issued by the Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Dhami expressed his “heartfelt gratitude” to the Prime Minister and the Union Minister for approving the proposal. He said the move reflects the Centre’s commitment to improving infrastructure in hilly and remote regions, where road access remains a persistent challenge due to difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions.
Dhami said the construction of these roads would ease transportation for residents living in rural and mountainous areas, improve access to essential services, and strengthen local economies. Better connectivity, he added, would also support agriculture, tourism and small-scale industries—sectors that form the backbone of Uttarakhand’s rural livelihood.
