Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Wednesday staged a sit-in protest outside the General Post Office (GPO) in Hyderabad, demanding the immediate implementation of the ₹2,500 monthly pension scheme for women—one of the key promises made by the Congress under its ‘Six Guarantees’ during the Telangana Assembly elections.

Kavitha, daughter of BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao, joined hundreds of women protestors in raising slogans against the Congress government, accusing it of betraying the trust of Telangana’s women by delaying the rollout of the much-publicized scheme. Holding placards and chanting “Guarantees must be fulfilled,” the demonstrators urged immediate action.

Taking a symbolic yet pointed step, Kavitha led a campaign of sending handwritten postcards addressed to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, urging her to intervene and ensure that the promises made to women voters are honored. “We will continue to send letters every day until the government wakes up and delivers on its word,” she declared.

Speaking to the media, Kavitha said, “Women in Telangana voted with hope. The Congress cannot wash its hands off now. If the Six Guarantees were not meant to be fulfilled, why were they made in the first place?”
