Bengaluru: BJP MP and former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress, alleging that the party has become “desperate” and is extending support to extremist organisations. He was reacting to a recent statement by a Congress leader from Jammu & Kashmir, who reportedly described the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a terrorist organisation.

Bommai said such remarks were not only irresponsible but also harmful to social harmony. “The Congress has become so desperate that they are supporting all the terrorist outfits and their activities,” he charged. “The time has come to take action against such people who are trying to divide society and bring a bad name to a nation-building organisation like RSS.”

In a separate statement, Bommai addressed ongoing protests by maize farmers across Karnataka, who are demanding relief amid steep price drops. He noted that maize prices, which previously hovered around ₹2,000 per tonne, have fallen to ₹1,200–₹1,600 this year, placing heavy financial strain on growers.

“Maize farmers are protesting across the state… The farmers are in distress and going on strike,” he said, urging the state government to intervene immediately. Bommai called for maize procurement at Minimum Support Price (MSP) or higher, arguing that timely action is crucial to prevent further economic hardship among farmers.
