Bhubaneswar, Odisha: In the wake of the shocking assault on Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo, BMC Mayor Sulochana Das has expressed deep concern over the incident and commended the swift response by the Odisha Police. She also assured citizens that security measures across municipal offices are being strengthened to prevent such incidents in the future.
“I would like to thank the people of Odisha for their support to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation,” said Mayor Das. “I am grateful to Odisha Police, especially the Commissionerate Police, that despite immense pressure, they arrested the culprit.”
The incident, which sparked outrage among civic workers and the public, has raised concerns about the safety of government officials and the sanctity of public offices. Addressing these concerns, the mayor said, “People are feeling unsafe today but that should not happen. People should feel safe and their trust in the Constitution should remain intact.”
She further emphasized the role of the police in ensuring justice. “Police are doing their work and we believe they will arrest all those who are involved. They will set an example for everyone so that nobody would dare to enter a public office and assault someone.”
Mayor Das also confirmed that municipal workers, who had gone on strike following the incident, would resume duties from the next day. “The CP has assured us of proper security. We will also have our internal security in place,” she added.
