Bhubaneswar, July 1 — Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Sulochana Das has strongly condemned the assault on Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo, terming the incident "unfortunate" and a serious threat to civic functioning and public service delivery. The incident occurred at the BMC office, where Sahoo, who oversees the grievance cell, was attacked while on duty.

According to Mayor Das, the officer was engaged in addressing public grievances and was scheduled to meet hundreds of citizens. However, a group of 5–6 individuals reportedly accompanied by a BJP corporator forcibly confronted Sahoo. "They dragged him and assaulted him. This shows the lawlessness in the city. No one is safe here," said Mayor Das during a press briefing.

Expressing concern over the deteriorating safety conditions for public servants, she added, "How will we serve the people if such incidents continue? We are feeling unsafe in our own workplace."
