DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Trinamool Congress and senior INDIA Alliance leaders, alleging that their statements and conduct have contributed to a climate of intimidation and mistrust around the electoral process. His remarks came after reports surfaced accusing Zamirul Islam Mulla, a booth-level agent of the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, of threatening a booth-level officer over the phone.

Calling the alleged incident “even more serious” in the context of West Bengal’s political environment, Trivedi questioned why such situations repeatedly arise in the state. He linked the issue to what he termed “baseless and unfounded allegations” made at the national level by senior opposition leaders. “Is this situation not arising because the LoP at the Centre himself directly makes baseless and unfounded allegations about the SIR?” he asked.

Trivedi further criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of making “indirect provocative statements” despite holding a constitutional position. “One is the Leader of the Opposition, and the other is the Chief Minister of the state. Making such statements clearly demonstrates that if anyone is the biggest obstacle to the Constitution's efforts to ensure transparent elections, it is the parties of the INDIA Alliance,” he said.
