BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla launched a sharp attack on Congress MP Imran Masood on Monday over his remarks describing the Delhi blast accused as “misguided youth”. Poonawalla said that while the mastermind of the blast was seen “justifying suicide bombing” in a video, Masood was attempting to downplay the gravity of the act.
He alleged that an “ecosystem” within the Opposition repeatedly prioritised vote-bank politics over national interest. “Like a spin doctor of terror, Congress MP Imran Masood says these people are misguided youth. An entire ecosystem prioritises ‘vote bank niti’ over ‘rashtriya niti’,” Poonawalla said.
The BJP spokesperson further claimed that ever since the terror incident took place, several Opposition leaders had “started defending the terrorists”. He named PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, Congress leaders Husain Dalwai and Abu Azmi, and INDI alliance member Anuma Acharya among those who, according to him, were soft-pedalling the issue.
“In the name of appeasement, the ‘aatanki bachao gang’ is active once again. This is nothing new; this has become their old tactic,” he said. Poonawalla reiterated the BJP’s long-standing charge that the Congress and the broader INDI alliance have historically taken positions that, in his words, “sympathise with terrorists”.
“Congress ka haath hamesha aatankiyon ke saath. INDI Alliance ka haath hamesha aatankiyon ke saath. We can see its evidence today,” he added.
