Delhi: Reacting to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s recent essay on the dynastic nature of Indian politics, BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Monday commended Tharoor for what he called an “insightful” and “honest” analysis of the political culture in India.

“A very insightful piece has been written by Dr. Tharoor on how Indian politics has become a family business,” Poonawalla said. “In the opening of that piece, he has explained how the first family of the Congress party—the Gandhi-Badra dynasty—has been responsible for cementing this negative thought that political position and power can be a matter of birth right,” he added.

Poonawalla remarked that leaders such as Tejashwi Yadav and Rahul Gandhi might “take his article very personally,” given its critique of hereditary politics.

While praising Tharoor’s courage for speaking out, the BJP leader predicted backlash from within the Congress ranks. “Dr. Tharoor should be applauded, but now he will get a series of bad words and insults from Kerala Congress and other leaders,” he said.
