New Delhi, 16 August — Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla has reacted to reports of a special NCERT module on Partition, saying that it is important for the younger generation to know the historical realities of 1947.
“We have come to know about a special module of NCERT on Partition, but we cannot run away from fact. Who was at the helm at the time of Partition? It was the Muslim League, Congress led by Nehru, and Mountbatten. Who could stop the Partition? Either the Muslim League or the Congress. There are statements of Nehru in favour of Partition. At that time, the wrong steps taken in greed of power and appeasement politics have left us still suffering,” Poonawalla said.
He added that lakhs had died, crores were displaced, and thousands of women faced atrocities during Partition. “When we remember it, the Congress opposes. They want to run away from history when it is not convenient, otherwise they live in history. Congress is repeating the historic mistake of appeasement politics and greed of power. They should apologise for the way they divided people,” he remarked.
The NCERT module has already drawn sharp political reactions. While BJP leaders have supported it as a corrective to past omissions, Congress has criticised attempts to politicise historical narratives. The issue is expected to remain a flashpoint in the wider debate on history and education.
