Delhi: Following the Supreme Court’s recent verdict on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain has criticised opposition leaders for their response and urged them to respect constitutional institutions, including the Election Commission and the judiciary.
Addressing the media, Hussain said, “Some opposition leaders who do not respect constitutional bodies and the Supreme Court's judgments are now approaching the Supreme Court to question the Election Commission, a constitutional body. The Supreme Court refused to ban it, so they became sad and hopeless.”
The Supreme Court, in its ruling, did not stay the Election Commission’s ongoing revision process but offered certain recommendations. Hussain pointed out that the top court has made suggestions, not mandates. “Currently, the Supreme Court has only provided suggestions and has not compelled the Election Commission to accept them. The Election Commission will decide, and the country respects it, so opposition leaders should also respect it,” he said.
