New Delhi: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain on Friday strongly criticised Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for his recent remarks in Colombia, where Gandhi alleged that India’s democratic institutions were under attack.
Speaking to reporters, Hussain said Gandhi’s statements amounted to “defaming the country on foreign soil.” He urged the Congress leader to exercise restraint, noting that the position of Leader of Opposition was a constitutional one that carried responsibility.
“Rahul Gandhi is making a huge mistake. He is the Leader of Opposition, which is a Constitutional post. Earlier, he used to go to foreign countries and defame India. This is shameful, and he should refrain from defaming India in foreign countries,” Hussain said in a statement posted on social media.
