New Delhi: BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor has sharply criticized the Delhi government, particularly Chief Minister Atishi, over her letter to Lieutenant Governor (L-G) regarding the Religious Committee's decision on demolitions of religious structures. Kapoor alleged that the Delhi government’s actions had backfired and expressed disappointment with the handling of the matter.

"Everyone knows that a religious committee operates via a chief minister. Before a file is sent to the L-G, it is passed by the CM and Delhi's home minister," Kapoor said. He pointed out that the Delhi government's involvement in the issue, particularly its push to offer salaries to priests, had not yielded positive results.

The controversy arose after Atishi wrote to the L-G regarding the Religious Committee's order, which had sparked concerns over the demolition of several religious structures. The move was viewed by many as a political maneuver by the Delhi government, which Kapoor claims has now backfired.

"Delhi government is disappointed, and its move to provide salaries to priests has backfired," Kapoor added, highlighting the BJP's dissatisfaction with the way the matter had been handled by the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi.

The political fallout from the issue has sparked a war of words between the AAP and the BJP, with both sides accusing each other of attempting to manipulate the situation for political gain. The controversy continues to unfold as the religious and political dimensions of the matter remain subjects of intense debate.
