Kolkata, West Bengal: BJP leader Agnimitra Paul has strongly criticized Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s announcement of a pay hike for doctors, alleging that it is an attempt to suppress their protests rather than addressing their core concerns.

“Mamata Banerjee is now trying to give a bribe and shut the mouth of the doctors. She'll never be able to do that,” Paul said, reacting to the government’s decision. “If you have increased the salary, we are very happy, but there are other things on which the doctors protested. Their demands were about security... She's just trying to bribe and shut the mouth of doctors,” she added.

Doctors in West Bengal have long raised concerns over workplace safety, citing instances of violence against medical professionals in government hospitals. While the salary revision is seen as a positive step, critics argue that the state government has not taken concrete measures to improve security and working conditions for healthcare workers.
