Kolkata, West Bengal: A political row has erupted following Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra’s recent social media post in which she commented on the cultural depiction of the Hindu goddess Maa Kali. Reacting sharply, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and MLA Agnimitra Paul condemned the post and accused Moitra of repeatedly making irreverent statements about the deity.
In her post on X (formerly Twitter), Moitra remarked, “Maa Kali doesn’t eat dhoklas,” a comment widely interpreted as a cultural jibe. BJP’s Agnimitra Paul responded, saying, “Previously, she said that Maa Kali is an alcoholic who smokes cigarettes, and today she is talking about some other food habits. It is natural that leaders like Mahua Moitra would say such things, as it is very difficult for TMC leaders to understand Maa Kali as Shakti.”
