Visakhapatnam: BJP leader Daggubati Purandeswari has expressed strong support for the recent decision taken by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) to retire and transfer non-Hindu staff members. The decision was welcomed by the BJP, which had previously raised concerns regarding appointments of people from other religions to the temple board.

Purandeswari explained, "When there were other than Hindu people appointed to the board of TTD, the BJP had raised its voice. The reason being that people who do not understand the Hindu Dharma, and the process of the rituals, would not be able to do justice to the devotees coming to the temple."

The BJP leader also highlighted that a movement was initiated to gather signatures from devotees, asking whether they would support people from other religions in key temple positions. The response was overwhelming, with a large number of devotees opposing such appointments.

Purandeswari emphasized that the decision to retire and transfer non-Hindu staff members was in line with the party's long-standing stance on maintaining religious integrity at the temple. "The decision was just taken, and it is welcome. We stood for the same cause," she added.

The move has sparked a significant debate about religious representation and the functioning of sacred institutions, particularly as it pertains to ensuring that temple operations align with the spiritual and cultural values of the community it serves.
