In a recent statement, BJP National Spokesperson CR Kesavan expressed strong criticism of the economic policies implemented by Congress-ruled states, particularly in Karnataka. He described these flagship programs as disastrous, stating that they have wreaked havoc on the states' economies. Kesavan pointed to the perceived failings of Congress's leadership, particularly targeting Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks about the ‘Shakti’ guarantee.

“The so-called flagship programmes of Congress-ruled states have turned out to be disastrous programmes that have wrecked the states’ economy,” Kesavan asserted. He attributed the failures to what he termed the “fraud and reckless policy” of the Congress party, suggesting that they have blindly followed the “irrational and absurd voodoo economics of Rahul Gandhi.” This critique reflects a broader frustration within the BJP regarding the Congress party's governance and policy-making, particularly in relation to economic management.

The controversy intensified when Kharge criticized Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar for suggesting that the state government would review the ‘Shakti’ guarantee. This guarantee, which is part of a larger social welfare scheme, has been a point of contention within the Congress party itself, raising questions about the coherence of their policy direction and commitments.

Kesavan’s remarks highlight a growing rift within the Congress party regarding its approach to welfare programs, as well as the broader implications for the party's credibility among voters. He stated, “The Congress party in Karnataka made false promises,” underscoring the BJP's stance that these welfare schemes, while initially popular, may ultimately lead to economic strain if not properly managed.
