Mumbai, August 4: In a significant development, a special NIA court acquitted all accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, bringing an end to a prolonged legal battle that had been under scrutiny for over 15 years. The verdict has reignited political debates, with BJP leaders accusing the Congress party of attempting to malign the Hindu community by promoting the term 'saffron terrorism.'
BJP MLA Ram Kadam, reacting to the court’s verdict, said, “The truth cannot be hidden. It took seven years of struggle for Sadhvi Pragya and others to clear their names. Truth might be oppressed, but it cannot be defeated. Today, the truth has prevailed, and Congress’s face has turned black because of their attempts to defame the Sanatan Hindu religion.”
Kadam further criticized Congress for allegedly linking senior leaders like Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat to conspiracies without credible evidence. “They wanted to create a false narrative of 'saffron terrorism' to malign the Hindu religion and its institutions,” he added.
The acquittal has been seen by BJP leaders as a vindication of their long-standing claim that the case was politically motivated. On the other hand, the Congress party has yet to issue an official response to the court's verdict or the BJP's remarks.
The Malegaon blast, which occurred on September 29, 2008, killed six people and injured over a hundred. The case has since been mired in legal complexities, with debates over the application of terror-related charges and the alleged targeting of certain religious groups.
