A political storm erupted on Saturday after Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi questioned the authenticity of the 2019 surgical strikes conducted by the Indian armed forces in response to the Pulwama terror attack. Reacting strongly, BJP national spokesperson CR Kesavan accused the Congress of insulting the armed forces and spreading a dangerous narrative.
Kesavan took aim at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, calling his expressions of solidarity with terror victims disingenuous. “When Rahul Gandhi claims that the Congress sympathises with the victims of a terror attack and stands united with the nation, it's an outright lie,” said Kesavan. “Because yesterday we saw Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi in a press conference shamelessly suspecting the patriotism and courage of our armed forces.”

He said Channi’s remarks were not only disrespectful but also damaging to the morale of India’s armed forces. “This shows and exposes the debased, dangerous, divisive ideology of Congress,” he asserted.
Channi’s comments, in which he demanded proof of the surgical strikes, have drawn widespread criticism from the BJP, which has frequently defended the military’s operations and criticized any questioning of its actions. Kesavan further challenged the Congress leadership to act decisively. “Will the Congress party now expel Channi from the working committee, take action?” he asked.
