New Delhi: BJP MP Sujeet Kumar has raised concerns over China's growing influence in South Asia, accusing it of attempting to encircle India through its 'String of Pearls' strategy. Speaking on the issue, he highlighted India’s proactive measures under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership to counter Beijing’s expansionist policies.

"China has always tried to encircle India through its 'String of Pearls' strategy, and as we know, whether it's Myanmar, Bangladesh, or Sri Lanka—be it Hambantota port or Gwadar port in Pakistan—it is trying to expand its influence in the larger Indian Ocean region," Kumar said.

The 'String of Pearls' refers to China's strategic acquisition of ports and infrastructure across the Indian Ocean, a move widely seen as an attempt to exert geopolitical dominance. However, Kumar emphasized that India is fully aware of these tactics and has responded with assertiveness, particularly in critical flashpoints like Galwan and Doklam.

"But we are very cognizant of this, and the Government of India under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership has shown its assertiveness in countering China. We saw that in Galwan and Doklam, and we are seeing that in the larger Indo-Pacific sphere," he added.

Kumar further underscored India’s strategy of countering China through multilateral engagements. "We are actively trying to counter China's evil designs, belligerent and expansionist attitude by working with like-minded countries, whether it's in QUAD, G20, or BIMSTEC. We are building strategic alliances and working with other nations to establish a rule-based world order to counter countries like China," he stated.
