Kolkata, West Bengal: BJP leader Locket Chatterjee has voiced strong criticism against the West Bengal Women's Commission, accusing it of failing to fulfill its responsibilities and favoring the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). Speaking at a press conference in Kolkata, Chatterjee claimed that the commission has not been proactive in addressing the concerns of women in the state, particularly in cases where women are victims of violence and harassment.
Chatterjee alleged that the West Bengal government has tampered with evidence in several cases involving crimes against women. She questioned why the State Women's Commission did not report these issues to the National Women's Commission, suggesting that the state body is more focused on serving the interests of the TMC than advocating for women's rights.
"The commission is not doing any work. It acts more like an office of the TMC rather than an independent body that is supposed to protect the rights and welfare of women," Chatterjee stated. She further criticized the commission for diverting attention by commenting on women's issues in other states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Manipur, while neglecting the pressing problems within West Bengal.
Chatterjee's remarks highlight the BJP's growing frustration with the state's handling of women's safety and welfare, as well as its broader criticism of the TMC government's governance. The BJP has been increasingly vocal about what it perceives as the failure of the West Bengal Women's Commission to act independently and uphold its mandate to protect women in the state.
